“I produced 'Chiaroscuro' back when. When Einar was an 18 year old wunderkind, when I was 27 and posing as the new hotshot indie producer. When I had just erected a rehearsal space booth acting as a studio control room, a few cheap russian condensers and some SM57’s going into the old Fostex mixer my stepdad had given me, recording this young, but immensely brilliant band that was to become Einar Stray Orchestra.

We were wet behind the ears, insecure and probably ill-advised, but we had that enthusiasm, energy and sense of wonder that you only have when discovering something for the first time. To me, the song Caressed is what encapsulates this feeling to the fullest extent, with its innocent, almost childish vibe mixed with all that raw ambition and talent.

I’ve taken the childishness to an extreme on my version, enlisting my six year old son as a backing singer (he’s also thoroughly enthusiastic about the song coming out!). The weird mixture of my love for 70’s african pop and 90’s american emo is shining through here, and makes this one quite unique in my own catalog, I think."
